Do tiles always need grout?

Grout plays a significant role in protecting floor tile. Although you might be able to get away without using it and, even if you have rectified tiles, installing them without grout is usually not recommended. Please continue reading to find out more.

Grout’s positive impact
Grout is an important design tool that also serves a significant function. The cement/water/sand mixture fills gaps, seals joints, and, when correctly mixed, sealed, and applied, makes it resistant to liquid.

If you don’t use grout, other substances, such as dust, might get between your tiles if they are not grouted. Rest assured, these materials find a way between your tiles no matter how tight and compressed you think the project looks.

Rectified tiles are pieces where all sides are finished to be precisely the same size, allowing for smaller grout joints and giving the floor an appearance of one large tiled area. While many don’t recommend going without it, these tiles do require less grout.

Choosing grout color
You’ll find an extensive inventory at our tile shop with products from some very well-known and trusted names like Dal-Tile, Marazzi, American Olean, and many others, all with matte, high gloss, wood-look, and textured surfaces.

As mentioned earlier, grout is a crucial design tool, and choosing it shouldn't be an afterthought.  Make sure you select the best type for your project and structure and, when it comes to color, that's essentially a matter of personal choice. It doesn't have to be the same color as the tiles but can blend in; in that case, you might want to use a lighter grout color. On the other hand, if you're highlighting a pattern, go darker with the grout.
